"First Americans" Research Projects

The students have been working hard to research information on their specific tribe.  They are working on posters to present to the class on Tuesday.  I'm impressed with their hard work and their  creativity.

Declaration of Independence INTRO

Today in class, I introduced the Declaration of Independence with a video.  We discussed the feelings, events, and questions that we have as we watch this video.  Tomorrow we will discuss all that was happening in the colonies during the time of the Declaration of Independence.  THE STUDENTS LOVED THIS VIDEO.  They asked that I put it on my blog so they can share it with you.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

"Home"

I am so excited about this year!  I have loved getting to know each student the past week and I can't wait to see all that they will accomplish this year.

We started our year in Social Studies by talking about our class as a family.  We discussed how 5th grade isn't just a classroom or a grade in school to them this year...THIS IS THEIR HOME!!! To help them grasp this concept, they listened to the song "Home" by Phillip Phillips.  We discussed the words and how they could apply to each student as they begin 5th grade.  I encourage you to listen to the song and ask your child about it.

Thanks for sharing your child(ren) with me this year!  Please know that THEY ARE LOVED! :)
